Broughton Park 10 v 12 Leigh

Leigh are 'Park's bogey team, not having beaten them since 2002 but this season Leigh had only won one game and 'Park were top of the league so the form book favoured 'Park. However, the Broughton Park team was much changed from previous weeks. The important spine of the team was all changed. From full back, scrum-half, out-half to inside centre. It looked at times as if some 'Park players had never played together and this was probably because they hadn't. Injuries and unavailabilities had decimated the 'Park back line.

'Park were under the cosh for the first 20 minutes and a Leigh kick ahead was adjudged not to be grounded so the try went begging for Leigh. The casual observer would have thought that Leigh were the top of the table in this top versus bottom of the table clash.

The 'Park forwards did drive towards the line and Sam Fuller nearly scored but was just held up before the line. More promising moves followed but misplaced passes or knock ons stopped the moves.

On the half hour mark scrum half Chris Mcatominey made a good break which was well supported by the forwards. Tight head prop Guy Barlow nearly made the line but was stopped. The ball was recycled and passed along to Joe Kennedy who scored under the posts. Ronan O'Brien converted. 7 - 0.

In the 6th minute of injury time of the first half Leigh retained the ball for many phases dragging the 'Park defence from side to side and eventually a gap opened up for Leigh to score under the posts. 7 - 7 at half time.

After 12 minutes of the 2nd half Leigh were penalised and indiscipline caused the referee to advance the kick which brought it within Ronan O'Brien's range and he duly obliged. 10 - 7.

Leigh were favouring the blind side attacks from rucks and mauls and one such attack from a maul saw them with two against one to give Leigh a try wide out. 10 - 12.

The rest of the half was fairly even and Leigh held out for their first away win of the season and 'Park's first loss at home in the league since 13th of January last season.
