North 2 West, 20th October 2007Tyldesley 5 v 37 Broughton Park'Park kicked off on a fine day with a slight breeze. 'Park were straight onto the attack and as Tyldesley were penalised at a scrummage near their own line, quick thinking scrum-half Richard McCabe took a quick tap and ran across the line dummying to finally feed centre Tom Mapp who scored near the posts. 0 - 5 after two minutes. Tyldesley were under the cosh and were penalised for offside. Ronan O'Brien put over the penalty making the score 0 - 8 after 10 minutes. The Tyldesley scrummage was under pressure from the off and when 'Park had a scrummage inside the Tyldesley 22 the push over try was on. 'Park duly obliged with John Clifford putting the ball down over the line. 0 - 13 after 15 mins. Tyldesley were caught offside again in their 22. Richard McCabe took the tap and feinted to go one way but went the other but the move was stopped and 'Park recycled the ball for John Clifford to score his 2nd try. 0 - 22 after 20 minutes. 'Park were running Tyldesley ragged at this stage and few more tries went begging as the final pass went astray or was knocked on. Tyldesley were finding it difficult to clear their lines and a poor kick went to full back Ronan O'Brien who jinked his way into a good position with options right and left. He chose to pass inside to Steve O'Connor who carried on the move finally ending up with the 'Park left winger, Pat Hurley, popping up in the centre to score a try under the posts. 0 - 27 after 30 minutes. 'Park were now running everything in sevens style moving the Tyldesley defence from side to side. Moves were breaking down but the 'Park forwards were retaining the ball. One such moved ended with a basketball type pass from Richard McCabe to Joe Kennedy to score in the corner to make the score 0 - 32 at half-time. In the first few minutes of the 2nd half 'Park's dominant pack drove a maul deep into the Tyldesley 22, Richard McCabe broke off towards the line but was stopped but offloaded to Steve O'Connor, who fed the ball to centre Tom Mapp who scored under the posts to make the score 0 - 37. The play became increasingly scrappy and bad tempered with the 'Park 2nd row being put in the sin bin for 10 minutes. He was later replaced. To add to 'Park's problems Hooker Andy Wilson sustained an injury and had to be replaced by prop Mark Flynn. Scrum-half Richard McCabe was limping as was centre Tom Mapp. 'Park's left winger was replaced because of injury and with all this upset Tyldesley came more into the game. Their pack after looking well beaten found new life. Tyldesley kicked ahead and the Tyldesley centre beat Steve O'Connor to the touch down to score Tyldesley's consolation try. Unfortunately Steve O'Connor went over on his ankle in the race for the ball. 'Park had used all their replacements so were down to 14 men for the last 20 minutes. There was no further scoring. Final score 5 - 37.
