Aldwinins 10 v 21 Broughton Park

Pre-league friendly against Aldwinians from the same level parallel league to 'Park. Aldwinians are in North 2 East and 'Park are in North 2 West.

'Park immediately put the home team under pressure forcing a penalty after 5 mins. Stand in kicker Tom Mapp made no mistake with the kick to make the score 0 - 3.

On 10 minutes alert full back Owen Lucas took a quick throw in, deep in his own half, to Dave Hanby who moved it to Tom Mapp who made good ground and sent it through further pairs of hands to winger Ben O'Brien. Ben was stopped but Aldwinians had hands in the ruck to give another penalty away which Tom Mapp duly put over to make the score 0 - 6 after 10 minutes.

Aldwinians repeatly offended at the ruck to give away another penalty which Tom Mapp put over and the Aldwinians player was sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes.

Aldwinians came more into the game with their lively forwards putting 'Park under pressure which forced a penalty to make the score 3 - 9 after 23 mins.

Just before half time from a scrummage deep in the Aldwinians half outhalf Steve O'Connor made a brilliant trademark dummying run along the backs to then break through by himself to score a converted try under the posts. 3 - 16 at half-time.

'Park were now playing into the wind and after 5 mins 'Park's outhalf was caught in possession deep in his own half and from the resulting scrum the Aldwinians outhalf jinked over for a converted try to make the score 10 - 16.

'Park had a good passage of play with the ball going through many phases and pairs of hands to eventually reach winger Ben O'Brien who scored near the corner flag to make the score 10 - 21.

'Park were then under the cosh for much of the rest of the game but the defence held out to make the final score 10 - 21.

With holidaying returnees Ronan O'Brien, John Clifford and Jon Knight back for next week's first league game against Rochdale, 'Park are in confident mood.
