Broughton Park 74 - 7 Tyldesley

Top of the league, 21 played and 21 won, Liverpool St Helens lost their 100% league record at home to 2nd placed Lymm and thus 'Park were deprived of a promotion play-off place. 'Park were left in 3rd place just 1 point behind.

'Park in early November had just 6 points from 8 games but the new coach's magic was beginning to work and they then dropped only 4 points in the rest of the season scoring an average of 38 points per game.

Broughton Park finished the season in high fashion with an excellent display of running rugby.

Tyldesley without their regular front row found the high pace of the game difficult to cope with and ten minutes into the game found themselves behind from a penalty by Ronan O'Brien, shortly after this brother Ben popped up to score a very good try in the corner following a very good turnover ball by Park's forwards, Ronan was once again on hand to convert the kick giving Park a lead of 10pts -0, further tries were added by Ronan O'Brien, Peter MacMahon ,Simon Verbickas ,Mike Rainey, three of which were converted giving Park a solid lead of 36pts-0 at the turn around.

Tyldesley got back into the game and found themselves putting Park under pressure in Park's twenty two which resulted in a try for them and a good conversion kick, Park now led by 36-7, at this stage it was good to see Steve O'Connor make his return by replacing Ben O'Brien and moving into the centre. It was also refreshing to see second row Mark Poole getting through a full game after a long term injury to his knee.

Winger Joe Kennedy was next on the score sheet following a lovely ball handling move involving most of Park's players giving Joe an easy run in to score giving Park a lead of 41-7. Tyldesley were now starting to show signs of struggling in the front row area and becoming a little disorganised in defence and it was not long before Steve O'Connor caught them napping to score in the corner and a good conversion kick by Ronan gave Park a lead of 48-7, the tries were now coming fast and furious and four more, two by scrum half Steve Elliot, a great individual effort by No8 John Clifford and one from Steve Kiely, two of which was converted saw Park run out winners 74pts-7pts.

On a sadder note Park bid farewell to, Skipper for the past three years, Andy(Tank)O'Grady after a long and fantastic playing career (1984-2007). Andy can proudly join the line of great Props that Park have produced over the past hundred years or so, I feel the best tribute we can pay to him is to simply say what a good servant he has been to Park over the Past twenty odd years, enjoy your retirement and time with your son Ben and wife Jill and we hope to see you on the coaching front in the new season. Thank you.

A massive well done must be recorded to Park's 2nd XV who have finished the season as Miller Homes League 1 Champions and now move on to the much harder Bateman BMW Premier League in the forthcoming season, well done to Alan Marsland and his players you have all done the Club very proud in deed.

To our third and fourth teams a very well done to you all, to our Mini Section and the U16 Squad what exciting times lay ahead for them thanks to all the Dad's and Mum's who get involved. The Clubs last vote of thanks must be recorded to Director of Rugby Kevin O'Brien for his outstanding contribution to this year's coaching of the 1st XV AND all other club players, to Jimmy Murray forwards coach and most of all to the players themselves, to the Clubs Committee the Ground Staff and all the rest of our helpers thank you for your time and efforts.
