Wilmslow 5 v 32 Broughton Park3rd March 2007With 2nd place Lymm losing and still having to go to league leaders Liverpool, 'Park in 3rd place have every chance of making a promotion play-off place.Within the first minute 'Park pressured Wilmslow into giving away a penalty which stand-in kicker Tom Mapp put over. 0 - 3 after 1 minute. In the first 20 minutes 'Park had many chances which went begging because of passes going astray or balls knocked on. The best chance was a well worked line out move which saw the ball squirt out from under hooker Andy Wilson's arm to touch the corner flag as he went over the line. 'Park made amends with a try from a slick passing movement from midfield with the ball going through many pairs of hands for lock forward Jon Knight to score wide out. Wilmslow were under constant pressure and a relieving kick went straight into full back Ronan O'Brien's hands who jinked his way through the despairing tackles of the Wilmslow defence to score wide out. Brother Ben O'Brien was on the scoresheet soon after, finishing off another 'Park passing movement which Tom Mapp converted. 0 - 20 at half-time. The half-time score could have been many more but for wayward passing and balls knocked on. The 2nd half started where the first left off with Mike Rainey popping up on the shoulder of Marlon Miller to score a converted try under the posts. Hat-trick try scorer last week was having an unlucky afternoon with passes to him going astray with the line beckoning. He did manage to get one pass but with the line at his mercy decided to change direction to try and get under the posts but unfortunately slipped. He retained the ball for it to go out wide where Wilmslow were forced to concede a penalty, which was quickly taken and fed to Tom Mapp coming in on the angle to score near the posts. 0 - 32. 'Park coach, Kevin O'Brien, rang the changes with rock of the pack Andy O'Grady going off and the other large gentleman John Clifford to be replaced by young Jake Smith and Mike Ainsworth. Mike Rainey was also replaced by Joe Kennady who quickly took up staion on Marlon Miller's shoulder to receive a try scoring pass but unfortunately the ball went forward. With 'Park taking their foot off the gas Wilmslow came more into the game and scored an injury time consolation try making the final score 5 - 32. If 'Park win all their remaining games and Lymm lose to Liverpool SH then 'Park will be in a play off promotion place with probably North 2 East's Sheffield Tigers at Sheffield. All to play for. There is just the little matter of the Intermediate Cup semi-final on March 24th. If 'Park win then they are in the final at Twickenham on April 14th. |
