League North 2 West

Broughton Park 10 v 17 Lymm, Jan 6th.

What can only be described as a dull afternoon for Park just about sums up the home teams lack of match play after a long Christmas break, although both teams preformed poorly, Lymm seemed to want the game more. A match littered with mistakes, poor refereeing at times, fell very short of the excellent rugby that Park had been producing before the festivities began.

Park took the lead in the first ten minutes of the game with a good follow up by Tom Mapp down the right hand corner of the field for winger Ben O'Brien to touch down which was followed by a difficult conversion by brother Ronan given Park a 7pt lead. This seemed to spur Lymm on and from a lineout in Park's twenty two the away side set up a driving maul which Park failed to stop giving them an easy try, the conversion was missed and Park kept their narrow lead by 7pts 5.

Lymm struck again from a set scrum their number 9 saw a gap up Park's blind side which he took advantage of and outpaced the Park defence to score Lymm's second try of the game giving them a 10pts to 7 lead at the half time whistle.

Park got themselves back into the game with two penalties one of which dropped just short of the posts, however full back Ronan O'Brien made no mistake with his second attempt bringing the scores back to 10pts each late into the second half. Lymm got their third try from once again a driving maul and a good conversion giving them a final score of 17pts to 10pts.

Park now have a week to pick themselves up and get ready for our away trip to L.S.H. next week, I am certain that we will see a vast improvement in our play now that the cobwebs have been blown away.
