Broughton Park 2nds v Wirral 2nds This game was a potential 'banana skin' and it did not help that we were put on one of the back pitches! Heavy rain and a strong cross wind made playing conditions poor. After some early pressure from Wirral, Park got a try from Jonathan Beardsmore following some good interplay to open the scoring. Pete Oakes converted and Park were in control. A Pete Oakes penalty followed and Park were 10-0 up. A lapse in concentration saw Wirral score a converted try. Park were quick to react and a break by Pete Oakes in mid-field passed to Rob Rock who scored under the posts. Pete converted to give Park a half time lead 17-7. An early score by Pete Oakes under the posts, which he converted was followed by a quick repost from Wirral, yet another lapse! Park wre dominating the game and it was disappointing to concede two tries! Joe Kennedy then cut through the Wirral defence to score under the posts. Pete again converted and this was followed by a penalty to make the final score 34-14. In difficult conditions the forwards were fantastic and this win was on a par with the victory at Preston. There is a great team spirit and everyone works for the team. The tackle count was unbelieveable and the back row were very impressive. Both line-outs and scrummaging were good and on a bigger pitch I believe our backs, with more space would have had a field day. With two matches to go we need to keep winning. The only team in contention is Preston. A win away at Warrington in two weeks should set us up for the game at home against Stockport on April 22nd. We need everyone available for this game because I beleive that at full strength we can beat Stockport. |
